Make A Vase!

My boyfriend's and my anniversary was this past week, so I made him a vase. Because what straight guy doesn't love home decor!
The answer is: There are none.
Here's how I did it!

First you'll need a plain ol' vase. I used this one, from hobby lobby, because it was the cheapest!
Then, paper mache it up using strips of paper and some watered down glue. Cut the strips into pieces about 2" by .5", and mix 1 part glue with 1 part water. You can take it from there!
After you let it dry, paint it white. Then paint a neat pattern on it!
Use acrylic paint in any color you want.
Here's the pattern I used:

Don't use watercolor paint like I did, because it's likely to smear.
After you get the pattern on, let it dry. Then spray it with a clear coat of spray paint, or use another sealant.
Here's the finished product!

Enjoy!

Valentines Day!

I've been super sick, but I didn't let that dampen my holiday cheer!

I made the boyfriend a big ol' heart card to celebrate!

I also got him a big bag of Milky Ways, and we went to go see They Might Be Giants and Jonathan Coulton in Charlotte! They were great! We got to watch lots of old people dancing, and one girl in the front row try and grab members of the band!

Here is some truly awful concert photography on my part, of Jonathan Coulton:
And proof that Travis and I were somewhere, sometime, with a camera.

I hope everyone else had a happy Valentine's Day!

And for old time's sake:

Sketchbook Decoratin'

So I got this ugly looking sketchbook at Hobby Lobby. I will leave out my complaints on sketchbook costs nowadays.
But this sketchbook is ugly.
Do you see any flowers on it? HOW CAN I USE THIS THING.
So, I glued some brown cardstock all over it, and painted it up. With a kitty.

I used some cheap-o white tempera paint that I watered down and some Higgins ink with a brush, though I'm sure sharpie would have worked just as well.
I put yarn balls on the back.

You should paint a kitty on your sketchbook too!

I made a blog!

Hi!
I am Rachel, and I'm an Illustration student.
I also do a lot of things with fabric, glue, paper, and watercolors, and I like cats a lot.
The reason for my girlish blog title will soon be no surprise, because I draw an overwhelming amount of cute couples, pretty dresses, patterns, water, floral prints, and kissing. I think I could make anything look inappropriately cute. Like a virus or a maggot. Or something.

I made this blog to hopefully join the ranks of talented crafters online, and because this site seems a little more original-content-friendly than tumblr. And by a little more I mean a lot more.

I plan on posting my art and process work, crafts, jewelry, sewing projects, "what I wore"s, and some charming anecdotes from my charming life.

And away I goooooooooo!
