Potato Sack

Usually I wear the outfits I share on here all day. But today I was like "Imma get dressed up and take pictures of myself!!" #fashionblogger

"Dressed up?" You may say, "Rachel, you are basically wearing a potato sack." And yeah, you'd be right (I say that lovingly). It just so happened that on this particular day dressing up meant taking off my shorts and wearing the most comfortable dress in my closet. Whatevuh, I know you guys ain't gonna hate.

I made a blogger friend while taking these, guys! This girl I've seen around (because she knows my roomate mostly) walked up while I was posing for the tripod and I was like "Omg sorry, just being awkward here," but it turns out she also has a blog! Where she posts her (incredibly diverse and awesome) artwork, her ventures in sewing, and thrift store fashion! How could I not know that there is someone else on my campus doing the same weird stuff as me?! You guys should check her out here.

I'm thankfully getting back into the swing of things here. Currently I'm in the mood to make tons of art and sew tons of dresses and like, change the world and everything, so here's hoping that will last! I mean, even my acne has cleared up so I'm for real on top of the world. How have you guys been doing?

Sick Tats

I don't know about you guys, but my weekend was a good one.

And like, most of what I did was just lay around. With Travis in bed, like a pair of self-indulgent teenagers who don't yet have bills to pay. The weather was fantastic, and we ate pizza with the windows open and it was really nice. Back to reality and school we go, though, but at least the weather's still on our side!

Do you like my new tattoo? Travis and I drew all over eachother with a sharpie, which isn't a good idea, because it rubbed off on our clothes and pillow cases.

I left my fancy new camera at school, so here are some grainy iPhone pics for ya. I'm looking forward to teaching the Travster how to use a DSLR. Then he can be my photographer 24/7 and my life will be like the centerfold of 17 magazine, right?

I noticed you can really see my beat-up lookin shin in this picture, so I thought I'd tell you how it got that way!

The biggest scar there is from when I fell off this wooden set of monkey bars in day care. I was climbing on top of them, and this jerky friend of mine was all "You can't do that! I'm going to tell on you!!" I had enough daredevil in me to be breaking the rules in the first place, but not enough to want to get caught, so I scrambled down. I whacked my leg on the ladder part in the process and then I was down real quick. Basically I lay screaming in the mulch and the teachers rushed me off to get a bandaid or something. There was an ugly gash on my leg for a month or so and it scarred up like this! As clumsy as I am, I'm pretty lucky to call that my worst injury.
Epilogue: My friend didn't end up telling on me.

Trav was enjoying being a whopping 2 inches taller than me in his fancy loafers.

Apartment Tour: My Room

The only thing I did the first day I got to school was decorate. I'm a big believer in making your environment a positive place, because it really affects (my) entire day. So here's a little tour of my tiny, pattern-heavy room!

I'm in the same room as last year, and they recarpeted over the summer. My room was rearranged when I came in, and it was probably a more logical setup. But I was all "I can't handle change!!" and moved it back with the help of my roomate.

I don't get a ton of natural light in here, so I opted for the twinkly kind instead! Which more than makes up for it, imo. I also finally figured out how to do a bokeh effect! #abouttime

But It Was On Sale

My dresses from the Modcloth Sale came!

Okay so technically I'm supposed to be on some kindof a shopping ban. And I really have been buying less... maybe I should adopt a lifelong shopping ban mindset, because I have been thinking about my purchases much harder, and I don't regret a single one of them from this month!

Anyway, I definitely would've been kicking myself if I hadn't bought this dress. It's Dear Creatures, a brand we all have a crush on (amirite?) and it was marked down to $40. I've had my eye on this one for awhile, and I even tried it on in a boutique over spring break! This color is modcloth exclusive or something, and I probably would have picked the white tbh. But I love it I love it I love it, and I'm so happy it's mine!

The other dress I got was a lot cheaper, and Travis bought it for me as a little gifty! I have to take it in some before I wear it, but it's super pretty too. I bought him a video game as a thankyou.

I actually went out and bought an iron for this dress. That's right, I didn't own an iron until now, and I almost killed an old dude trying to get to it at the store! He was walking really slowly through the isle with his wife who was in a wheelchair, and he sat down right in front of the ironing boards. I was all "Excuse me, can I just. grab. thissss" and then as he shifted out my way, a bunch of boards fell on him! That sounds a lot gnarlier than it was, it was more like they were stacked up behind him and just sort of thunked against his back. But they kept doing that every time I tried to angle them back towards the shelf and eventually he just told me to leave and I just kindof ran away like "Aaack I'm sorry!"

I mean, maybe I could have handled it better...

Here was Trav's outfit.

Apartment Tour: Living Room

This year I'm living in the same apartment/dorm I did last year. It's like an apartment in that I have my own room, and I share the common area with 3 other girls, and like a dorm in that no one room is co-ed, there's no kitchen, I have to share a bathroom, and that we have to check in our guests. So let's be real, it's a dorm.

This year, though, I'm living with 3 of my best friends instead of one friend and 2 strangers, which makes it a lot more fun. They basically let me decorate the living room any way I wanted, and I really like how homey it is after only a couple items. So here's a quick look around that also involves me climbing on my furniture.

The furniture came with the room, which is why I didn't photograph the particularly ugly one-seat sofa. We also have an empty entertainment center that looks perfect for puppet shows.

I included some shots of my outfit and nails duh.

I'll photograph my room, soon, too. Did any of you guys decorate your dorms this year?

Fountain

Day 1 of classes are up and boy, do my feet hurt. Mostly we went over syllabi, but my illustration professor took us on this weird walk along campus that was supposed to sync up landmarks with events in the history of the universe. It was pretty cute, but it also got pretty sweaty. I can't believe my bangs aren't more jacked up than they are in these photos!

In addition to sweating and awkwardly smiling at passers by, I dunked my skirt in this dumb fountain on accident and had to walk back to the dorm kinda damp.

I hope my hair looks this bright irl because I am diggin how it looks in photos. Like the little mermaid or something.

I layered a crop top under this dress. I totes would have worn it with just a bra underneath, but I didn't want to shock all my teachers on the first day!

Guys please tell me what is going on in your lives because I'm remembering all too well the things that suck about school. Either distract me with your glamorous existence or commiserate, pls.
